NTEN Course Features
- They are designed specifically for practicing teachers.
- They are taught in sections of 25 or less.
- They are delivered online by the Burns
Telecom Center at Montana State
University-Bozeman using conferencing software. The courses are
carefully coordinated to maintain intense student/student and student/instructor
interaction. We have found that online conferencing (which doesn't
require participants to be online at the same time) actually enhances
the quality of class discussions.
- They have been developed and are taught by highly qualified faculty
- in most cases regular faculty at MSU-Bozeman who are active in research
and teaching in their respective fields. A small number of courses
have been developed by individuals off-campus who have been identified
by NTEN or CERES as uniquely
qualified.
- They usually carry graduate credit at MSU-Bozeman (a few exceptions
carry senior-level undergraduate credit; these are noted in the course
catalog).
- The initial course offerings have been evaluated by Horizon Research,
Inc., an independent consulting and evaluation firm under contract
to the respective projects. Repeat offerings of these courses are
evaluated by project staff to advance our understanding of online
learning.
